2012- End of the world

Roland Emmerich has got his formula as accurate as possible. Action that makes you edge to the tiniest corner of your seat, special effects that leap out.. ready to devour you while going about their job of devouring the rest of the world.. two love stories as love-story-like as possible.. 2012 will surely be a blockbuster hit as predicted. But then again that is what the entire movie is- predictable.
Roland Emmerich probably thought you hadn’t got enough of seeing different ways in which you could die. So after ‘Independence Day’ and ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ he goes a step ahead in fantasizing about how the entire world will go up in smoke, under water, into fire…he leaves no element without any work to be done.
This nearly three hour action film revolves around almost a dozen main characters. Chiwetel Ejiofor, an American geologist finds out about the inevitable end from an Indian scientist who is conveniently ‘forgotten’ to be picked up by the Americans who sell out tickets for the ‘ark’ to the rich, high and mighty.
John Cusack and Amanda Peet are the proud divorced parents of a bratty, rude son and an adorable daughter. Cusack manages to be the only man from Los Angeles who saves his entire family by making his wife’s new boyfriend fly a series of planes to china where a modern Noah’s Ark is being built. And to watch how this one family intends to fight for survival seems to be all that we’ve bought our tickets for. After the family has made it far enough to not need a pilot anymore, the new boyfriend conveniently dies so the now-happy family gets re-united.
The movie does have its ‘nobel’ moments though. Danny Glover, the president of The United States of America does the heroic captain-of-a-ship thing. Ejiofor makes a dramatic speech about humanity which helps him win a point over Oliver Platt, his conceited selfish boss. He makes the captain of the ship open the doors for all the people left outside (consisting mostly of millionaires who bought tickets for the ark but couldn’t run in in time because of their huge behinds)just a few minutes before the entire human race may be wiped out.
When asked what he wanted his audiences to take back from the movie, Emmerich said he hoped his movie would give everyone food for thought. Thoughts about who should go into those arks if such a day should ever come. Ya of course! Like what you or I think is going to decide the fate of billions.. or is it trillions of earthlings.. Besides, if Emmerich thinks giving people time to think is going to make us nobel enough to consider saving only those who genecists recommend..all I have to say is.. YA RIGHT!
Emmerich has announced that 2012 may be his final disaster movie. But that’s not the only reason why you should make this a must watch. You wouldn’t want to miss out on seeing how the world will come to an end, would you? Considering you may not be as lucky as Amanda Peet to be whisked away to safety by two men who love her. So you might as well watch the end on reel. Maybe you can choose which way you want to go too… Get struck by volcanoes or gulped down by tsunamis… Emmerich gives you options galore. See if you can strike a deal with God. Do let me know if that happens. I’ll try it too.
